Nintendo is off to a good start with their new console, the Nintendo Switch. According to the NPD Group, the Switch was the best-selling video game hardware in April with more than 280,000 units sold. March was also a productive month, and April only continued the momentum. Together with the 3DS both systems sold more than 68,000 units, making up close to half of all hardware sales across all systems.
The iconic racer Mario Kart 8 Deluxe launched on April 28, and in two days raced to sales of over 460,000 units; Digital sales brings the total to 550,000 units.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is gaining critical acclaim and is the third highest selling game in April. Link’s newest open-world adventure will have more content on the way this summer and holiday season with two new DLC packs.
Will Nintendo’s sales momentum continue? Only time will tell..
